THE CREW

GRANT

Born and raised in Durban, on the east coast of South Africa, Grant lived around the water and mountains experiencing all aspects of the outdoors while growing up. Family vacations and weekends where spent taking part in water sports, fishing and riding off-road motorcycles. After finishing college he started a career in sales for Land Rover & Jaguar. While the company car was a great perk, he soon realized that he longed for the outdoors.

Looking for opportunity elsewhere, he gravitated towards yachting. Having a strong background with water sports and boats he found no difficulty adapting to that new life style which began in the South of France working on super yachts. He then made the move to the BVI working on catamarans and realized that the interactions with guests and being apart of something bigger, someone's happiness and memorable moments was really what drove him.

Outside of yachting, Grant's other passions are kitesurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, fishing and golf. He looks forward to sharing those activities and stories with guests.

ULRIKA

Ulrika was born in the northern part of Finland. As a child she would often go sailing with a family friend and was always fascinated by the sea. Every summer Ulrika spent months in the Swedish archipelago at her grandmother’s villa. Her grandmother grew everything herself: a variety of different food crops, vegetables, herbs, fruit and berries. Her grandmother hosted countless beautiful family feasts that brought the whole family together. This experience built the foundation to Ulrika’s interest in food and cooking at a young age.

While Ulrika was in high school, she went on an exchange year in Thailand where she spent the year living with the locals and learning about the culture and the language. During her time in Thailand she also fell in love with the local cuisine. Ulrika soon realized how much she loved traveling and exploring new places, cultures and cuisines.

A few years later she got accepted into one of the world’s top ranking art universities in Helsinki, Finland to study product design. During these years she would often find herself catering for events, exhibitions and vernissages and always dreaming of and planning the next adventure. She moved to Stockholm and ended up working in tech for some years. She longed for a change and decided to pick up her sailing skills and took a sailing course in Tenerife. After rediscovering her childhood dreams of sailing and falling in love with the sea all over again she decided to take a close friend’s advice and combine her love for the sea and cooking.

We have enjoyed the most fabulous week as three generations age 8 - 72. It has been, without a doubt, the best experience that we could have hoped for. Thank you.

Ulrika, your hospitality and sweet nature have been a pleasure. You are a talented chef and how you baked fresh delicious bread at sea is a mystery! Amazing!

Orlagh, your calm and patient nature and experience was so valued. You know the best places to see and we quickly learned to take every recommendation.

APRIL 2023 - BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Thank you so much for the most amazing week. Our family, spanning grandparents, kids, grandkids, and of course in-laws had the greatest time. Your knowledge of everything - from the local seas, to the cooking capabilities, to our family's varying preferences on everything - made it an especially remarkable experience. We had the greatest time, all because of you two. We will share below some thoughts from our own children/grandchildren, to whom you were particularly amazing.

I love Mollie and Thomas. I had a grate week with them thank you a lot.

Thank you Molly and Thomas! This has been the most amazing week of my life. I will forget you guys!

P.S. . . . .Best . . . . Week . . . .EVER!

With the utmost thanks and highest recommendation.

Tom - you are a cook and calm captain. You always made sure we had the best spots!! Mollie - your love shined through your cooking and over each meal, snack and latte you served us. We will miss you and hope to sail with you again in the future.

FEBRUARY 2023 - BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Thank you so much for all you have done for us this week! It's a sign of a great trip when by the end we can call our crew friends. Extra special thank you for taking care of your "difficult passenger" (with all of my sea sickness). I wish we could join you for the next two weeks, but since we can't I hope you both have some relaxing down time together. We' see you in Amsterdam!

JANUARY 2023 - BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

You did an amazing job making Ad Astra an idyllic vacation destination! The boat is beautifully redone and so comfortable! But the best part was you two - your welcoming spirit and enthusiasm for making our family vacation and Christmas so memorable! Tom you are such a calm, confident skipper and we loved our sails this week! You take such meticulous care of the boat! Mollie, the food was absolutely amazing and every day blew us away! We come away with so many memories - barracuda, amazing lattes, back flips, the caves, tubing, snorkeling everywhere, the sail from Anegada, Soggy Dollar - all of it! You guys are the best!

DECEMBER 2023 - BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

Our family had a dreamy week on Ad Astra and Tom and Mollie were the most wonderful hosts, catering to our every need in the most comfortable, gracious manner. The boat accommodated us all so comfortable and was perfectly appointed so that we could take full advantage of relaxing among the natural beauty around us. We were so well taken care of from start to finish, from our fabulous itinerary, our sails, our excursions, and the amazing food and drinks, it was a week we will never forget. We are already thinking of when we get back on board with Tom and Mollie!
